Sweet Chestnut

• Heartwood ranges from light to medium brown which darkens to a redder brown with age. The sapwood is well depicted from the heartwood with its much paler white to light brown color.
• Grain can also range between straight, spiral and interlocked resulting in a coarse and uneven texture.
• Very durable, however, it is susceptible to insect attacks.
• Overall easy to work with both hand and machine tools.
• Chestnut does split easily, so care must be taken when nailing and screwing the material.
• Glues and finishes well.
• Mainly cultivated for its delicious edible seeds.
