Sycamore
- Very similar to maple, the material is mainly comprised of sapwood with some heartwood streaks.
- The sapwood is white to light tan whereas the heartwood is a darker reddish brown.
- The grain is interlocked with a fine and even texture that is considered to be very similar to maple.
- Material is considered to be perishable regarding decay resistance and is susceptible to insect attack.
- Works well with both hand and machine tools, however, the interlocked grain can prove some difficulty in surfacing.
- Turns, glues, and finishes well.
***FUN FACT: Sycamore trees are also known as “ghost trees” due to their pale top crowns resulting from losing their leaves. ***
